"Service is Learning"

In 5th Grade at Vandenberg we focus our learning on service to others. Throughout the year students are able to participate in a variety of activities that help to cultivate their leadership in the school community, in a wide range of settings. Students are encouraged to build their capacity for learning by giving their time and talents to many clubs and services. The teachers collaborate as a team to create project-based learning experiences.

We promote the participation of students in:

• Service Squad
• Life Skills class
• Sports Club
• Battle of the Books
• Academic AP program
• Promethean and SMARTboard technology integrated into the classrooms
• Document Projectors in the classroom
• Quarterly Curriculum-based field trips

Through our business partnerships with:
 

• Michigan First Credit Union
• Arab American Chaldean Council

Our students gain valuable life skills. 

In addition, students explore through many hands-on learning activities to include but not limited to, science investigations, field trips that reinforce curriculum, “Holidays Around the World; Multicultural Luncheon” and 5th grade Camp which is a highlight in our year!
