MacArthur K-8 University Academy's mission is to engage students in high-quality learning experiences, teach students personal and civic responsibility, and inspire students to be enthusiastic and independent learners.

MacArthur K- 8 University Academy is a school of choice. Housing approximately 550 students in kindergarten through eighth grade, MacArthur is well known for its strong curriculum emphasizing Math, Science, and Technology.

To prepare for the application, you will need the documents below. 

  1. Most recent report card (dated after January 1, 2024)
  2. Local/district assessment results (i.e., NWEA MAP; i-Ready Diagnostic Assessment, Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments, STAR assessments, or Early Literacy & Mathematics Benchmark Assessments) 
  3. State standardized assessment scores (i.e., M-Step)
  4. Section 504 Plan (if applicable)
  5. IEP (if applicable)

STEP 2 - Teacher Observation Checklist  (Close at 4:00 PM on March 1, 2024)

Step 2 is ONLY for scholars entering grades 2-8 in the Fall. 

Students entering kindergarten or 1st Grade in the Fall must not complete step 2.

 

STEP 3 - Instructions to complete the "Teacher Observation" checklist:

  1. Copy and Paste the link below.
  2. Then, please forward the link via email to your scholar's homeroom teacher as soon as possible. 
  3. The homeroom teacher MUST complete the link from their school email address by 4:00 PM on March 8, 2024. The responses will be sent directly to the MacArthur selection committee.  
  4. The selection committee will ONLY accept responses from the homeroom teacher's school email address.  
  5. Parents/Guardians: Please refrain from asking your scholar's teacher to provide you with a copy of the "Teacher Observation" checklist, as the information from the homeroom teacher is confidential and should only be shared with the MacArthur selection committee.

University Middle School Academy and University High School Academy Application 

 

Entrance Examination: You must submit a completed application.  Scholars who apply will be invited via email to take the entrance exam.  

 

UMHSA 2024-2025 Application Window:

Closes: February 29, 2024 at 4:00 PM

Entrance Exam Tentative Date: 03/16/24

  2. Local/district assessment results for students entering grades 6-8 (i.e., NWEA MAP; i-Ready Diagnostic Assessment, Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments, STAR assessments, or Early Literacy & Mathematics Benchmark Assessments)

  4. PSAT scores (students entering grades 9-11)

  7. Student statement: Why does the student want to attend UMHSA?

Guiding questions for student statement:

1. The student should be able to provide their characteristics. 

2. How will the student benefit from attending UMHSA?

3. What can the student bring to the school, i.e., talent and skills?
