We know how difficult this time is and will do everything we can to ensure the enrollment process is as smooth as possible. Students who will be attending Southfield Public Schools for the first time or re-enrolling must visit the How To Enroll section below for the online process.

Joining the Southfield Public Schools Family

There are several ways to become a part of the Southfield Public Schools family:

  • Children of Southfield Public School District Employees

Non-residents should contact the Pupil Registration at student.registration@southfieldk12.org or (248) 746-7601 to see if they are eligible to enroll in Southfield Public Schools.

HOW TO ENROLL

District Residents (Kindergarten - 12th Grade)

K - 12 Enrollment Requirements/Procedures 

Southfield Public Schools processes new student enrollments online. Students who will be attending Southfield Public Schools for the first time or re-enrolling must register via the following link: https://mistar.oakland.k12.mi.us/Southfield/PreEnrollment/

The laws of Michigan state that a child's residence for educational purposes is with his/her parent/legal guardian. 

Required Enrollment Documents: 

A. Proof of Residency of Students K-12

  • House Closing Papers or Mortgage Documents
  • Apartment or House Rental Lease 

AND

  • Two (2) Current Utility Bills (within 30 days) or Connection Notices

B.  Kindergarten Students

  • Original Birth Certificate 
  • Immunization Records (up to date)
  • Vision Screening
  • Court Ordered Guardianship Documents (if applicable)
  • Current IEP/MET (for students receiving special education services)

C. Students Grade 1-12

  • Birth Certificate
  • Immunization Records (up to date)
  • Court Ordered Guardianship Documents (if applicable)
  • Latest Report Card / Unofficial Transcript
  • Disciplinary/Behavior Report
  • Current IEP/MET (for students receiving special education services)

Early Head Start, Head Start and Great Start Readiness Program

Thank you for your interest in Bussey Center for Early Childhood Education. Please complete the Early Childhood Education Questionnaire to begin the application process. 

*Please Note: Completing the questionnaire does not guarantee placement in the program. 

School of Choice - Oakland County Residents (K-9)

School of Choice 2020-21

Kindergarten - 9th grade

The Southfield Public Schools Board of Education has approved unlimited Schools of Choice (Section 105) openings in kindergarten through 9th grade for Oakland County residents only for the 2020-21 school year. The application period is January 13, 2020 - August 28, 2020. The application will be available by following a link listed below beginning January 13, 2020. You must complete the online enrollment packet no later than the enrollment deadline on the acceptance letter to guarantee placement. 

How to Apply

Enrolling in Southfield Public Schools as a non-resident through Schools of Choice (Section 105) is a three-step process.

Step 1: Complete the Schools of Choice (Section 105) application to begin the process of applying for enrollment in our district during the Schools of Choice application period. Please complete an application for each student. After completion, please print the document to sign.

Oakland County Residents
Current Southfield Public Schools Students
Southfield Public School Employees

Step 2: Scan or photograph the application and email it to student.registration@southfieldk12.org

Step 3: Once the application is received and reviewed, you will be contacted by a Pupil Registration staff member with information on how to complete the enrollment process.

Once accepted through the Schools of Choice program, you may continue to attend Southfield Public Schools through graduation unless there is a break in enrollment. Transportation to and from school is not provided.

School of Choice - Non-Oakland County Residents (Kindergarten ONLY)

School of Choice 2020-21

Kindergarten 

The Southfield Public Schools Board of Education has approved unlimited Schools of Choice (Section 105c) openings for residents in Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties for the 2020-21 school year for:

  • Kindergarten (all schools)

The application period is January 13, 2020 - August 28, 2020. The application will be available by following a link listed below beginning January 13, 2020. You must complete the online enrollment packet no later than the enrollment deadline on the acceptance letter to guarantee placement.

Residency Help Guide

Are you currently residing with a Southfield/Lathrup Village resident or relative?

Did you recently relocate to Southfield/Lathrup Village and temporarily residing with a Southfield/Lathrup Village resident?

Is your place of residence in Southfield/Lathrup Village in someone else's name (i.e. the leaseholder signed the lease agreement and you are listed as an occupant)?

If you have answered "yes" to any of the above questions, a parent/guardian must provide the following documents for registration:

1.  Original Birth Certificate or Green Card/Passport of the student

2.  Current Immunization Record of the student

3.  Recent Report Card/Unofficial Transcript

4.  Two Current Utility Bills (bearing the name and address of the owner/leaseholder of Southfield/Lathrup Village)

5.  Proof of Home Ownership/Lease Agreement (i.e. Deed, Closing Statement, Recent Tax Assessment Slip, Mortgage Payment Book with the resident's name and address attached). Lease agreement should include a letter from management to verify occupancy.

6.  Four different pieces of current business mail with parent/legal guardian name with the Southfield/Lathrup Village address (DO NOT INCLUDE MAGAZINES, FLYERS, PICTURE IDENTIFICATION, DRIVER'S LICENSE OR VOTER'S REGISTRATION CARD)

Only the documents listed will be accepted as proof of residency.  Southfield Public Schools reserves the right to verify residency documentation provided at the time of enrollment. During this process, registration may be delayed due to verification.
