Procedures for Reporting Requirements

Letter to Interested Persons Regarding Reporting Requirements

December 12, 2017

Dear Southfield Community Members and/or Interested Persons:

Kennedy Learning Center is committed to ensuring equal access and participation for people with disabilities. We are committed to treating people with disabilities in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We believe in integration and we are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner. We will do so by removing and preventing barriers to accessibility and by meeting our accessibility requirements under ADA 2010, Title II and Section 504.

I am the district appointed person to oversee Section 504, Title II and ADA Compliance barrier concerns for Kennedy Learning Center. My function in this capacity is to keep abreast of all changes in handicap access regulations and to address the needs and concerns of all interested person in gaining access to all of Kennedy Learning Center programs and activities. I recognize that accessibility and barrier modifications can be an ongoing process. Therefore, I look forward to partnering with you to make Kennedy barrier free. Contact information and a form have been uploaded on our school webpage for interested persons to complete and return. As barriers and accessibility concerns are brought to my attention, I look forward to personally meeting at the Center to discourse.

The district’s accessibility team is in the process of reviewing and modifying our access/barriers to all services, activities and programs at Kennedy. Along with the district’s Director of Operations, we have conducted a self-evaluation of the Center. At this time, we determined that the Center has some physical barriers for accessibility. However, reassignment of activities/programs to an alternate location is deemed unnecessary at this time.  In the future, if an alternate location and/or reassignment of activities are required, notification will be provided for all interested persons on our school webpage and signage will post on the exterior of the building (Door #1 and Door #2).

Again, Kennedy Learning Center strives to meet the needs of its interested persons and stakeholders with disabilities and is working hard to remove and prevent barriers to accessibility. If you have any questions and/or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Educationally yours,

Mrs. Tonya Hickman, Ed.S.
