Beginning Orchestra (grade 6) is open to students with little or no years of instrument experience. Musicians will learn to play the violin, viola, cello or string bass. They will learn the parts of the instrument, proper holding position and care, note reading , tone production, basic music theory and instrument performance skills. Students are expected to participate in the Winter and Spring concerts.
Intermediate Orchestra (grade 7) is open to students with one or more years of instrument experience. Musicians will expand knowledge of basic music concepts/ theory. They will learn to count complex rhythms, improve note reading skills, study additional music terminology, learn a variety of bowing styles and begin vibrato. Students are expected to participate in the Winter and Spring concert and perform for various school and community activities.
This 8th Grade course is only open to ADVANCED string students. Students must come from the 7th Grade Strings Class or transfer in from another string program. Students will learn vibrato, how to shift positions, solos and all major and minor scales. The entire class must go MSBOA Solo & Ensemble Festival. This Ensemble will perform 4-8 events per school year.
