A Message from Dean Williams
Thank you for visiting the website of a model, high school preparation program, University Middle School Academy (UMSA) and our college preparatory high school, University High School Academy (UHSA). UMSA and UHSA are examination public magnet schools with a smaller, private school feel. I hope you find our website informative and user-friendly, as we want you to learn more about all that UMSA and UHSA have to offer your son/daughter.
The University Middle School Academy challenges students in grades 6th through 8th to think critically and to take accelerated math courses. Along with the high school students, UMSA students may participate in international educational tours, leadership seminars and Fine and Performing Arts courses, including dance and music.
The University High School Academy is recognized as a College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone and Official Pre-AP School. Consequently, students have the opportunity to earn an AP Capstone Diploma or Certificate and to participate in classes designate to increase success on AP examinations and in college. Since 2013, UHSA has been named one of the “Best Schools in America” by Newsweek/The Daily Beast. Based on 2018 data, the “U” also ranks 3rd in the State of Michigan for college/university enrollment. In addition, Bridge Magazine named UHSA as “First Place Academic State Champ” in the middle to upper income school category for sending graduates to college. One hundred percent of the Class of 2019 graduated from high school in June and 100% planned to enroll in a college or university. In fact, 25% of this class planned to enroll at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor with academic scholarship awards. Furthermore, this class of 112 students earned over 10 million dollars in scholarship awards. Truly, we are proud of the accomplishments of our graduates.
In addition to their high school and college preparatory courses, students are assigned a seminar course, which allows them to pursue further academic enrichment and learning support during the school day and to develop meaningful relationships with their teachers and classmates. The in-depth mix of project-based, differentiated lessons gives our students the requisite skills and knowledge to compete with gifted and talented students from across the State of Michigan and around the United States.
If you are seeking a rigorous, accelerated and supportive educational experience for your son/daughter, we invite you to consider our learning community.
In the spirit of excellence,
Marcia M. Williams
