Southfield Enrollment/Registration Information
There are several ways to become a part of the Southfield Public Schools family:
- District Resident - Families that reside in the Southfield Public Schools boundaries.
- Schools of Choice - Once accepted through the Schools of Choice program, you may continue to attend Southfield Public Schools through graduation unless there is a break in enrollment. Transportation to and from school is not provided.
- Children of Southfield Public School District Employees - (Your paycheck must come from Southfield Public Schools) Once accepted you may continue to attend Southfield Public Schools through graduation as long as the parent is still employed by the district. Transportation to and from school is not provided.
Michigan Law states that a child’s residence for educational purposes is with his/her parent or legal guardian.

If any enrollment documents are found to be falsified, your child will be ineligible for enrollment.
Required Documents for Enrollment
- Original Birth Certificate
- Immunization Record
- Vision Screening (for kindergarten only)
- Latest Report Card (for students entering 1st - 9th grade)
- Transcript (for student entering 10th – 12th grade)
- Disciplinary/Behavior Report for the previous school year (for students entering 1st grade)
- Disciplinary/Behavior Report For the previous 2 school years (for students entering 2nd – 12th grade)
- For Students Living With a Court Order Guardian: Current Court Ordered Guardianship Documents
- Current IEP (for students receiving special education services)
- Completed School Of Choice Form (For Out of District Students)
Proof of Residency:

Knowingly providing false information regarding your residence, including claiming to live at an address where you do not actually reside, constitutes a federal offense, and the district reserves the right to pursue legal action against both you and any individual whose address you are falsely using.
For Parents Residing with a Homeowner, you must upload the following:
- The homeowner’s current Mortgage Statement or City Property Tax Statement from the City Hall
- The homeowner's current DTE Statement AND current Consumers Energy statement
- The homeowner's Government issued Michigan License or State ID with their current address (the sticker on the back is not acceptable)
- The parent/legal guardian must provide four pieces of current business mail, out of the envelope that is going to the Southfield/Lathrup Village address (junk mail, voter's registration and car registration is not acceptable)
- The parent/legal guardian's Government issued Michigan License or State ID must have the Southfield/Lathrup Village address (the sticker on the back is not acceptable)
- *Notarized Affidavit* must be completed and signed by the homeowner and the parent
For Parents Residing with a Renter in a Home, you must upload the following:
- The renter/lessee's Lease Agreement that has you and your child(ren) listed as occupants
- The renter/lessee's current DTE statement AND Consumers Energy
- The renter/lessee's Government issued Michigan License or State ID with their current address (the sticker on the back is not acceptable)
- The parent/legal guardian must provide four pieces of current business mail, out of the envelope that is going to the Southfield/Lathrup Village address (junk mail, voter's registration and car registration is not acceptable)

For Parents Residing with a Renter in an Apartment Building, you must upload the following:
- The renter/lessee's Lease Agreement that has you and your child(ren) listed as occupants
- The renter/lessee's current DTE statement AND Consumers Energy or Cable statement
- The renter/lessee's Government issued Michigan License or State ID with their current address (the sticker on the back is not acceptable)
- The parent/legal guardian must provide four pieces of current business mail, out of the envelope that is going to the Southfield/Lathrup Village address (junk mail, voter's registration and car registration is not acceptable)
- *Notarized Affidavit* must be completed and signed by the renter and the parent

Southfield Public Schools accepts Schools of Choice applicants during the open enrollment period. Applying for Schools of Choice does not guarantee enrollment into Southfield Public Schools and placement is based upon seating availability.
Our Schools of Choice policy for Oakland County is for students entering grades K-9 ONLY
Our Schools of Choice policy for Wayne/Macomb/Livingston Counties is for students entering grade K-3 ONLY

You will receive an email notification by Friday, August 23, 2024.

If you are a new in-district enrollee or if your child is a current student and you are interested in selecting a school other than your homeschool, please complete the In-District Transfer application, sign and date it. Please complete an application for each student. PLEASE NOTE: Approval of In-District Transfer Requests is based on your school selection seat availability.
For NEW IN-DISTRICT ENROLLEES, please upload the application into your enrollment portal.

Complete the Employee Schools of Choice application to enroll during the School of Choice application period and upload it into the enrollment portal. Please complete an application for each student.

To update your student’s address please sign on to your Mi-Star Parent Portal. Upload your new residency information which includes your ID (with the new address), your lease or mortgage statement, and 2 utility bills (DTE, Consumers Energy, Cable, or Internet).

Office Hours:
The office is opened Tuesday-Thursday from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm by appointment. All enrollment is done through the online application system. If you do not have a computer/smart phone or if you are having difficulties navigating the online system, please call for assistance on the phone or to make an appointment at (248) 746-7601 ext. 3. We make appointments so we can provide each parent with great customer service in a timely manner.
