Program Overview

The purpose of this program is to supplement and enrich the educational experience by allowing your scholar to pursue coursework which otherwise would not be available during his or her high school career. Students enrolled in the district Dual Enrollment program are expected to complete all high school graduation requirements, as outlined by the Michigan Merit Curriculum (MMC) and the Southfield Public Schools Board of Education. Students admitted to this program are granted full college/university privileges, including use of the library and recreational facilities.

What Would My High School Schedule Look Like If I Dual Enroll?

You will need to be enrolled in a minimum of one class per semester. To be dual enrolled you must drop at least one of your SPS classes.
You are responsible for your own transportation. Students must follow the college calendar (spring break, winter break, etc. do not always align with the SPS school calendar).
You are expected to attend college classes whenever they are in session. Students must select a college course that meets outside of school hours.

***Important Notice for Student-Athletes***
The NCAA requires that all core courses used for collegiate athletic eligibility must indicate a grade and be calculated into the pupil's high school GPA. This requirement only pertains to Division I or Division II collegiate athletes. Be sure to discuss this important matter with your high school principal, head coach, athletic director, high school counselor, and the SPS Clearinghouse specialist.

Did you know that eligible high school students can now take dual enrollment courses without leaving their high school campus?

Yes, it’s true. Southfield Public Schools is partnering with Lawrence Technology University to offer two certificate programs (Cybersecurity and Game Design) on SHS A&T and University K12 Academy campuses. To learn more about the certificate programs click the link below.

Next Steps

Information

Students are required to consult with their high school counselor to determine their eligibility to participate in the dual enrollment program. Completing the forms listed below does not qualify the student for the program.

To be considered for the H.S. Dual enrollment program, students are required to have an Academic Performance Guidelines (A.P.G) form on file and a GPA of 2.0 or higher posted on their high school transcript.

2. Click here to upload the completed APG form. Students and parents must sign and agree to the terms of this document. The A.P.G. for is due by 4:00 PM on TBD.

3. After you upload the completed A.P.G. form, immediately email the designated Dual Enrollment (D.E.) counselors for your high school by 4:00 PM on TBD and request a meeting to determine your eligibility.
