Summer Assignments

Michigan TravelSummer assignments are typically designed to do one of two things: Review and stay fresh on content already learned, or to preview content coming up in the new year. Some of these assignments are specifically targeted to fill some gaps that have been observed by teachers as students enter these courses.

There are only two Summer Work assignments this time: English and Math.

Shopping Lists

School SuppliesPlease note that these lists are meant to be a help to you as things go on sale. The goal is to help consolidate trips to the store and take advantage of sales when you can. These lists are NOT necessarily exhaustive. Since there will be some shifting of teachers from school to school, and scheduling changes, please understand that these are our best estimate of what is needed. There may still be some detail items when your students meet their teachers. Thank you for your flexibility.

Remember this fall starts a different school year. Materials that were previously shared, highlighters, markers, erasers, calculators, etc will probably not be shared. Students will need to be more self-sufficient.

 +++++ +++++ +++++ +++++ +++++

**TI-84plus, or TI-84ce is what is used most in class by the teacher. Any TI-84plus, TI-83plus, TI-nSpire, Casio, HP, or similar is fine. NumWorks is a new platform that some of us are trying. This would be acceptable also.
No calculator with CAS is allowed except for AP Calculus and AP Statistics. CAS calculators are allowed for AP Calc and Stat but NOT required, expected, or even recommended.  (TI-89, TI-nSpire CAS, HP-48, etc. can be purchased for AP Calculus and Statistics only.) For Math 6-8, Algebra 1 or Geometry, a scientific calculator is fine. For Algebra 2 and above, students will really need a graphing calculator. NO phone apps will be allowed during tests. A stand-alone calculator is a must.

** If you find used TI-84's with YELLOW covers, these are marketed by Texas Instruments as "School Property" calculators. Please DO NOT PURCHASE these. Please DO NOT SEND these to school with your students. We have some UHSA/School/Teacher-owned yellow calculators and we need to be able to tell them apart. This will make a very awkward situation if they have the yellow version. Thank you!
