Bussey Curriculum

Bussey's curriculum is based on the nationally recognized High Scope curriculum as well as the Michigan Early Childhood Standards of Quality. These standards are founded on developmentally appropriate skills that build confidence and competence and lead to success in school. They focus on all areas of development including; physical (gross & fine motor skills), cognitive (including math and science); language/literacy/communication, social relationships, creative arts, dramatic play, and initiative. The curriculum is designed to prepare children for the Southfield Public Schools' kindergarten curriculum.

Everyday children have an opportunity to plan and make individual choices based on their interests. They also participate in small group activities where the teachers are able to target and differentiate instruction. Large group provides practice in community living skills and "school routines". Children are able to meet and interact with other children who will attend kindergarten in the Southfield district.
