6th Grade: Language Exploration

In this course sixth graders are exposed to both French and Spanish basics for a total of ten weeks (one quarter). Topics covered include greetings, numbers, letters, colors. Students become accustomed to hearing and understanding the spoken language, as well as reading the written word.

7th Grade: Spanish Exploration

This twenty-week (one semester) course is offered for seventh graders during the first semester. Students are introduced to Mexican-American culture through the reading of a young adult book entitled, The Tequila Worm. Students also delve deeper into basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar. Topics studied include: clothing, numbers, colors, foods, holidays, body parts, calendar, places in the city and more.

7th Grade: French Exploration

This twenty-week (semester) course is offered for seventh graders during the second semester. Students are introduced to French culture through websites and simulations. Students will learn more vocabulary as it relates to life in France, including: food, numbers, calendar, family, colors, house, clothing and more.

8th Grade: Spanish I

This full-year course is the equivalent of High School Spanish I. Upon successful completion of this course (B- or higher) students will be able to go on to Spanish II at the high school. This academic course seeks to develop speaking, listening, writing and reading skills, while at the same time focusing on grammar concepts. Students have regular homework, quizzes, and projects and receive participation points for using the language in class.

8th Grade: French I

This full-year course is the equivalent of High School French I. Upon successful completion of this course (B- or higher) students will be able to go on to French II at the high school. This academic course seeks to develop speaking, listening, writing and reading skills, while at the same time focusing on grammar concepts. Students have regular homework, quizzes, and projects and receive participation points for using the language in class.
