A Message from Dean Williams
Thank you for visiting the website of a model high school, University High School Academy (UHSA), and our high school preparation program for eighth grades students, University High School Preparatory Academy (UPREP). I hope you find our website informative and user-friendly, as we want you learn more about all that UHSA and UPREP have to offer your son/daughter. From an exemplary and innovative STEAM2 (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics and medicine) curriculum to a plethora of school sponsored clubs and organizations, UHSA and UPREP have a means of engaging our students as active members of the learning community. UHSA is very proud to be a College Board, Advanced Placement Capstone School. AP Capstone is an innovative diploma program that helps students stand out in the college admission process by developing the critical skills needed to succeed in college and in life. Students immerse themselves in topics that matter to them while developing the analytic, research, problem-solving, and communication skills that colleges seek in their applicants. This challenging program helps students deepen their passion for learning, gives them greater confidence in their academic skills, and provides broader perspective about the world.
Both of these personalized schools offer students and families an opportunity to coalesce and establish personal and collegial relationships with me and our counseling, instructional and support staff. Our campus offers a warm, intimate learning environment for students. The education our students receive is enhanced by strong parent support and relationships with the University of Michigan and Michigan First Credit Union.
Students attend seven classes a day, which allows them to pursue further academic enrichment and learning support during the school day and to develop meaningful relationships with their teachers and classmates. The in-depth mix of project-based, differentiated lessons gives our students the requisite skills and knowledge to compete with gifted and talented students from across the State of Michigan and around the United States. We have been on Newsweek magazine’s list of America’s Best High Schools and listed as a break-out school in the Midwest. One hundred percent of the Class of 2016 graduated from high school in June and 98% planned to enroll in a college or university. Twenty-two percent enrolled at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor with academic scholarship awards. In addition, this class of 109 students earned over $5.6 million dollars in academic scholarships. Truly, we are proud of the accomplishments of our graduates.
UHSA and UPREP offer a demanding educational experience for students and families who seek rigorous, accelerated and advanced curriculum in a structured setting. We invite you to consider a learning environment where every child is known by adults.
