Operating out of Southfield High School since 1967, WSHJ is one of the longest running high school radio stations in Michigan. We are a non-commercial, educational FM station broadcasting on 88.3 MHz in stereo. The station is owned by the Southfield Public Schools Board of Education. We operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. WSHJ reaches all of Southfield and surrounding communities. Our station is one of the forerunners of educational broadcasting in Michigan.
Students who have successfully passed Speech and Broadcast may interview for a station position. After an extensive interview process, members are selected. If you attend any Southfield public high school you are eligible.
WSHJ receives most of its funding from the district; however, our annual budget is supplemented through fundraising and underwriting.
WSHJ seeks to provide students with a hands-on learning environment that engenders applicable knowledge and experience in all facets of radio, including the importance of teamwork. It is also the mission of WSHJ to serve our community by providing positive and relevant content produced by students who professionally broadcast educational, informational, and entertaining programming.
WSHJ plays a huge variety of music; after all it's . . .
